Located on Martha’s Vineyard, this high-end residential interior was conceived as a restorative environment rooted in material health and environmental well-being. The design draws from the soft tonal palette of the surrounding landscape, using natural textures and restrained forms to create a calm and grounding spatial experience.
Central to the project was a rigorous material research process. All finishes, furnishings, and textiles were screened for chemical content and indoor air quality, prioritizing natural and mineral-based materials with full ingredient transparency. When suitable products were not available, custom pieces were commissioned from trusted fabricators.
Custom furniture was constructed using FSC-certified wood, natural latex upholstery systems, and plant-based adhesives, eliminating common toxins such as flame retardants, formaldehyde, and petrochemical foams. Fabrics were woven entirely from natural fibers, and finishes were selected to support a low-toxicity interior environment.
Together, these strategies created a home defined not only by its aesthetic harmony with the landscape but by a carefully considered material ecology designed to support long-term health, sensory comfort, and overall well-being.
